FAQ

What are the most common handyman repair tasks?

Handymen are often called upon to repair roofs and windows, doors, gutters or siding. They also can install hot water heaters, air conditioning units, electrical systems, sheds, decks, fences, sheds and other items. Handymen are available to help homeowners with home improvements and building projects. They can also assist with plumbing, painting, drywall, landscaping, concrete work as well as tiling and decking.

Are there any tips from a handyman about how to improve my home and make it more beautiful?

Absolutely! True, a handyman can be trained in any area of home repair or maintenance. A handyman knows what to fix and what not. You don't have to be shy about asking for advice when you need it.

How do I locate a trustworthy handyman

You should always get references before you hire a handyman. Ask your family and friends if they have ever used them. Also, look online--there are plenty of review sites where handymen post reviews of themselves.

Which is better: contracting, or being a handyman.

As you only require yourself and your tools, being a handyman takes less time than contracting. While contractors often rely on subcontractors, handymen must be able and willing to manage their own work schedules.

Is it cheaper to hire handyman than general contractors for the same job?

Yes! Yes! This is especially true when you've never had a contractor complete a task before. Additionally, a handyman will speed up the job completion because they can complete certain tasks quicker and more efficiently.

How to Replace a Broken Window?

Replacing broken windows is one of the most common home improvement tasks. This involves fixing any damage caused by the glass. In this case, the repair work should only take around 30 minutes. The problem is that you might end up with further damage to your home if the glass pane breaks. This article offers some useful tips to replace a broken window.

Step one: Get rid of the old glass from the frame

First, remove all screws that hold the glass in place. Next, take out the lock at top center of the window frame's bottom section. Next, lift the window upwards so it isn’t attached to sill plates (the metal bars below the floor). Finally, use a pry tool to carefully loosen the remaining screws until they pop out of their holes. Clean the panes thoroughly after they are taken out.

Step 2: Clean the new glasses

Use a dry paper towel or cloth to remove any dirt from the glass. A spray bottle filled with water, rubbing alcohol and water can be used to clean debris stuck beneath the glass.

Step 3: Install the new glass

Then, attach the window panes back into the frames. Start by pushing down on the lower edge of the outermost pane with the tip of a screwdriver. Gently push the pane into the opening of the frame. Next, move on to the next pane and press it against the frame before attaching it. Continue inserting the windows until they are all assembled. To seal the area where the panes meet, use a silicone caulk gun.

Fourth step: Repair the damage

Before installing the new glass, make sure to inspect the area around any cracks. Install two pieces of small wood on each side of any hole if the break was near the corner. These wooden blocks will give strength to the window and act as spacers between the glass and the weatherproofing material.

Fiveth step: Seal the repair area

After the glass has had to be replaced, apply silicone caulking at the perimeter edges. This will seal the glass to the wallboard. You can purchase silicone caulking at hardware stores or online. It is important to match the color of the walls with silicone caulking.

Allow the caulking to cure overnight. Once the caulking is fully set, don't disturb it. You may crack the caulking by not waiting long enough.
