No. No. You just need to give them the materials they require to complete the job.

How To

How do I replace a cracked window?

One of the most popular home improvement projects is to replace broken windows. The job involves repairing the damage done to the glass in your home. Repairs should take about 30 minutes in this situation. The problem is that you might end up with further damage to your home if the glass pane breaks. This article offers some useful tips to replace a broken window.

Step one: Get rid of the old glass from the frame

First, remove all screws that hold the glass in place. Next, take out the lock at top center of the window frame's bottom section. Next, move the window up slightly to remove it from the sill plate (the bar that runs below the floor). The last step is to gently loosen all remaining screws with a tool. After the panes have been removed from the window, clean them well.

Step 2: Clean the new glasses

You can wipe any dirt off the glass surface with a towel or a dry cloth. If debris is stuck under the glass, try cleaning it with a spray bottle filled with water and rubbing alcohol.

Third Step: Reinstall the replacement glass

Attach the window panes to the frames. With the tip of a screwdriver, push down on the bottom edge of the outermost window pane. Gently push your pane back into its opening. Then move to the next pane, pushing it firmly against the previous pane before reattaching it. Continue inserting the panes till the window is complete. Use a silicone caulk gun to seal the space where the panes meet.

Fourth Step: Repair the affected area

Before installing the new glass, make sure to inspect the area around any cracks. In the event that the hole is located near the corner of your window, place two small pieces on either side of it. These wooden blocks will strengthen the window while acting as spacers for the glass during expansion and contraction of the weatherproofing.

The fifth step is to seal the area.

After the glass is replaced, apply silicone caulking to all edges of your window frame. This will create a strong seal between glass and surrounding wallboard. You can purchase silicone caulking at hardware stores or online. Be sure to choose a color that matches the existing paint on the walls.

Let the caulking set overnight. The caulking should be left to harden completely before you disturb it. You may crack the caulking by not waiting long enough.
