What's the difference between a handyman or a carpenter, you ask?

A handyman can be hired for various projects, including painting, plumbing, electrical installation, carpentry, drywall repair, cabinet making, flooring, tiling, kitchen remodeling, and furniture assembly. How To

How to Replace a Broken Window?

It is one of the most commonly performed home improvements. The task consists of repairing damage caused to the glass inside your house. Repair work in this instance should take no more than 30 minutes. But if you do not know how to replace a broken pane of glass, then you risk causing further damage to the house. This article will give you some helpful tips for replacing broken windows.

First step: Take the glass out of its frame

To remove the old glass, you must first lift out the screws holding the windowpane in place. Next, take out the lock at top center of the window frame's bottom section. Next, lift the window slightly up so that it is no longer attached the sill plate (the steel bar at the floor). Next, remove any remaining screws using a pry instrument until they are loosen. After the panes have been removed from the window, clean them well.

Next step: Clean the glass

Use a dry cloth or paper towel to wipe away any dirt from the surface of the glass. Use a spray bottle with water and alcohol to clean any debris that has gotten under the glass.

The third step is to reinstall the glass

Attach the window frames to the panes. Begin by pressing down on the outermost pane's lower edge with a screwdriver. Gently push down on the lower edge of the outermost pane with the tip of a screwdriver. Then move to the next pane, pushing it firmly against the previous pane before reattaching it. Continue inserting the windows until they are all assembled. To seal the area where the panes meet, use a silicone caulk gun.

Fourth step: Repair any damage.

To determine if additional repairs are necessary, inspect the area surrounding the hole before installing the glass. In the event that the hole is located near the corner of your window, place two small pieces on either side of it. These wooden blocks will be strong and can also act as spacers, keeping the glass in its place during expansion and contract of the weatherproofing.

The fifth step is to seal the area.

After replacing the glass, you can apply silicone caulking along the perimeter edges to the window frame. This will create a strong seal between glass and surrounding wallboard. You can buy silicone caulking online or at hardware shops. Be sure to choose a color that matches the existing paint on the walls.

Let the caulking set overnight. After the caulking has dried completely, do not disturb it. If you don't wait long enough, you could cause the caulking to crack when you remove it.
